Wheaterville readers express their opinions.
Remember, we're just a glorified blog.

Over the back fence
Okay, folks. Admit it, reader comments are the both the best and the worst part of Wheaterville. Kinda like Thanksgiving dinner with your extended family. Management still hasn't quite figured out how to handle this part of the job. Bear with us if you please - and let us know what you think. If you can't stand the chaos, check back in a few weeks. Maybe things will be settled down by then... or maybe not...

Ogive mea home:

Where the deer and the antelope play. Doesn't that sound gooood! Not only for the people that hunt and put food on their table, but for ex-country farm/ex-city life, now back to country/farm/fishin and takin it easy person like me. Finding the spot to lay ground from now till I die was a two year venture. Findind the State of Wyoming is a gem. From can't take your eyes off sunrises to head turning don't leave yet sunsets. Wheatland was the place to settle this rundown, broken up, endlessly tired body and mind. Many residents I met in my path were neighborly and accepted my heartfelt handshake. Hearing the echo of cheering coming from the local highschool. Knee deep in the North Platte River with a six pound rainbow tugging on my four pound line! God's Country.....pristine,clear,wild horses, smell of sage.....oh how we forget what we had, but thank goodness we have the resources to come back. I feel good being here, it's right. It's where I should be and the gracious people of Wheatland helped me decide. Go ahead and leave this All-American/We take pride in our State of Wyoming for whatever your reasons are....but you'll remember and eventually wish for the simpler times and watercolor memories of this small town, names of friends and neighbors and the smell of home cooked meals and prairie sage.

Whatever happened with the attitude in the school that was promoting that 'banner ' issue a year or so ago. Did the parents all re-educated the kids on in-tolerance and bigotry.

I am a gay male living in Wheatland and I am disgusted and appalled by the lack of tolerance across the board here!  economic situations are keeping me here but I would really like out as soon as possible.  the scenery and the small town appealed to me but the attitude here is seriously out of control.  I keep to myself and I still get called every name in the back regardless of where I go.  the mentality of the school system is disgusting too. I've seen and heard that kids especially at the middle/high schools love to demean gays and are also highly racist.  get out of the 1700s wheatland wyomign

HUhh!:
I agree Where are the Parents of this kid? The Winn boy has always been in Druby's with a smile and has been very helpful. He does not seem the type to just beat up someone for no reason. Maybe PSA should stay out of Druby.

In regards to PSA Where are the Parents of the 16 year old.  Leave Drubes out of this and Mr. Winn He is a good employee..YOU HAVE TO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS.

MrObvious:
Drubes can't police their employees outside of work nor can they just fire someone based on hear say. The result of boycotting Drubes would result only in Drubes(A nice local business) being hurt and adding one more individual to the unemployment line(Drubes having to pay) or welfare. Drubes is NOT the culprit! If the allegations are true and are found true in court, use you energies towards the Wheatland justice system - Not local, innocent business.

Curious:
You said he "assaulted" a minor. He hit the minor with a vehicle or physically hit him with his fist?
Friday

to PSA:
Nothing will be done about him...he's been providing minors with alcohol for awhile. I am sure law enforcement knows this and won't do anything. It would be hard to believe the owners of Drubes don't know this since they have children in high school. They know what kind of person is working for them and I would have to believe as long as he has worked there that they don't mind his extracurricular activity.

drunk driver in wheatland:
I hope the boy is doing ok. As for drunk drivers in Wheatland, we're lucky that our police catch as many as they do. Stop complaining our police to start with. And as for boycotting a store where the drunk driver works, does that mean also we should boycott the school district and platte county schools where a four time convicted drunk driver is the superintendent? It would be nice if we could do both, but you can't turn a blind eye to one and not the other. Prayers for the boy that was hit. Please keep up the public announcements. It's the only way we can know what is really going on around here.

I will have to agree with "To CJ". When are these clowns gonna quit spending money on a bunch of Bull****! that is not needed! What was wrong with the old cop cars?

To CJ:
For heaven's sake don't give the chief and excuse to go out and spend more city money on an already "overpoliced" police department! By the way wasn't there a problem with city garbage trucks just a couple of months ago? And now we have FOUR shiney, new, blue police cars! We didnt have have half the law enforcement that we have now when the powerplant build was in full swing! We really just don't need it! This town doesn't even have the population that is stated on those signs outside of town. If you give the chief a shiney new car he's gonna want a garage to park it in. If you give a mouse a cookie...I'm just sayin'

Born and Raised here:
Pat.... you need to ignore everything you read on this website.  Wheatland is a great place to raise a family. Wheatland people have a tendancy to judge others before they even get to know them.  I know this from personal experience because my husband isn't from here.  People on this website do nothing but complain about anything and everything. So please just ignore them.  Make your move to Wheatland because so many of us will welcome you and your family and hope that you enjoy living here.  :)

Pat:
Wow, my family is planning on moving to Wheatland from Arizona and I am very surprised at all of the comments on this board.  I really hope that Wheatland is not such a bad place to live as it is living in Phoenix.  We are looking forward to less traffic, crime, horrible air pollution and mass retailers.

tired of the drama:
So... I was born and raised in Wheatland most of my life. Not only am I disappointed in the prices of most rentals in this town, but I am also disappointed that I cannot find a decent place to rent for an amount of money that I can afford that will allow me to have both our therapy dog and our ferret. Does anyone have any suggestions? please let me know!

Senior Center problems?:
Anybody know what is up at the senior center?  Hear there has been a firing and people put on probation.  Sounds like things there are going to h*** in a handbasket.  Good going Mr Whitton.  Hope you run your ranch better than the senior center.  At this rate your wife will be out a job, too.

First Thanks to all The Firefighters Who have unselfilshly responed to dozen's of fires during this very busy season. Again thank you so much.   Second to the Police officers for there timely response to several calls that have prevented unwanted crime in our great communitiy,But I have a consern about the choice of new police vehicles you have chosen, Please dont take this wrong, But wheatland is still subject to winter storms, a few years back the town of wheatland shut the city streets due to alot of snow. Are the new police vehicles going to be able to properly respond to Emergancies during our sometimes bad winter storm season?  The police Chief Is a respected person in this town and his choice is the best. But it is a car.

Ask some real firefighters:
Try asking some real firefighters what they think of government being involved in some of the recent range fires that have occurred in our area. Does Bureau Of Land Management ring a bell. Government boys just as well stayed home no more than they helped. Cops should be watching teachers as well as students. We all know some higher up people in the system whom have broken the law with alcohol recently. What ever became of that anyway? Oh I know government!

Baby Blue:
Very few people, even Wyoming folks, want all government out of their lives. They do want the FDA to be checking food and drugs for safety and efficacy, and they do realize that the "free market" is not the most efficient safeguard for this. Likewise with laws, most people want the police and sheriff's office to make sure the other guy is following the rules. Wheatland has a fine force of both, and keeping an eye on the high school is a very important part of their job. (Hint, if your kid get's "hassled" you might should figure out what he or she was doing at the time! You might be the last to know what he or she is up to!) Government is the big boogey man, but when your house is about to burn down, you stop griping (or should) about all those terrible taxes you're paying to make sure the fire fighters or ambulance is there for you. I have to also say, that since I myself don't have cows in the backyard and dead cars in the front yard, I am grateful that government is there to tell my neighbor that he can't either.

No Government In Our School Lunches:
Did the little darlings actually SEE the LABEL on the melon? I'm thinking not. Not every melon in the universe, world, country, state, town, or even store was recalled, so your kids are probably safe.

Mold? Teach them to go and tell the grown up that there's mold. In a nice way, as I'm sure you would do, as a grown up yourself, were you to be served food that was not up to your standards in a restaurant. It is a great opportunity for a Life Lesson.

But it sounds like you're one of those who want The Government all over our business, checking our food, making sure the kiddies don't get bad grub and all that. Are you?

Darn socialist. You probably belive in Social Security for old people too, don't you? What are you doing in Wyoming? We want no government, no where. And get those cops away from the schools too! They're arresting kids for smoking dope, can you believe that? Parents can police their own kids. That's probably where the kids are getting their weed.

lunch at school:
my kids watch the morning news. the stories included cantalopes. (the recall). they came home horrified that the school served them cantalope for lunch!! with mold on it! who watches over the lunches being served?? for the price you are charging for a meal do you think we can get unrecalled unmolded food?

FOR "TO MIKE" FROM MIKE:
You've done an excellent job of proving your point about ignorance of world affairs.  This is evidenced your poor punctuation and by the fact that you misspelled the word Monterrey.

As for my own alleged ignorance...

When I moved to Monterrey, it had a lower crime rate than most U.S. cities.  I continue to stay here for family and economic reasons.

I graduated #1 in my MBA class at Loyola University.

I am the Vice President of Sales for a 600 million dollar company, and I probably earn more money in a week than you do in six months.
