He's Baaaaa ack Shadow from the Shadows

He's Baaaaa ack Shadow from the Shadows
the Shadow
Hello from the shadows of Glendo. I’m sure you have wondered where we have been hiding!! Well it’s a story for another time.

Let’s get to it. After a short time of checking out the candidates the people have once again called on the 19th century leadership and elected Susan and her posse. Are they evil people?? Probably not as I define evil. Could it be that those backers of hers that seemed to be slient for the last 4 years know that the major problems around town like sewers ,water systems and a new building for the fire dept. have been done and most of the things left are minor??

As the town surged ahead into the 21th century during the Jay Collins era there is now a lot of questions about what will the direction be now? The crowning moment will come at the next council meeting when they appoint the replacement for Susan’s empty seat. Will it be another puppet or someone with something to contribute??

I’’m sure the council or the town people will make sure that Jay knows how much they all appreciated everything he accomplished in his 4 years. If the council doesn’t do this the people of the town that reaped the benefits of all his work should do it on their own!!

Part of our group has moved on to greener pastures but those of us left behind will carry on exposing the dark side of Glendo government but also giving them credit when due. We will be looking forward to your responses to get this dialog started again!!

Facts:
Yes the WVFD has new trucks that are Grant Funded yet who has to come up with the other half of the money.......Thats right the Town of Wheatland.  I have looked at some paid departments that don't have the apparatus that WVFD has and for what 200 calls a year?  Then we pay for the "Chief" to drive around in a truck and take care of his personal business all the time.  Yeah those poor firemen.  Then a few times a year they travel out of town for training.  They party on the tax money and the drive money.  What do people think happens at the State Fire Convention?  Just take a look at what happens the next time its in Wheatland.  I have a very good friend on the department and I hear all the "training" stories.

Come on people there are bad spending habits across the board from what I can see.  Not just WVFD, EWAS or any other group but the Town it self spends a lot of really frivolouse money.

looking at facts:
Speaking of Facts, I think you answered your own question. If the fire department is going door to door for donations and they also have a town budget. That tells me the town budget is insufficient and the firemen are doing their part by raising the funds on their own. Also the firefighters are volunteer, not paid like the EMS crews. Also I believe most of the new fire trucks have been paid for with grants, not town budget money. The firehall is being paid for with the optional sales tax that was past a while back, not from a town budget. Its paid for by anybody that buys anything in Platte County, including tourists, not just the people of Wheatland. If the people of Wheatland wanted to use that sales tax money for something else, they had every opputunity to come up with a better project.

Speaking of Facts:
Well Facts I read your post and I took it upon myself to do some research.  As of right now the Ambulance is being subsidized the $179,000.  This is a correct statement.  What do you think it costs the towns or Counties around Wheatland to run their ambulance service??  I checked and we are looking at nothing short of $250,000 to $400,000 to run a service.  I know I for one have used EWAS and they are an excellent service that is extremely professional.  I have a family memeber who EWAS has had to come help lift because we simply cannot manage to lift them all the time.  I asked one of the crew memebers a long time ago what this would cost for a lift and the answer was nothing.  Anytime night or day we haved called for a simple lift assist and have never been charged a dime.  I would rather have a system that works in a small town and takes care of the people than a half ran system that doesn't care.  I think what EWAS is doing is a great job and keep up the good work.

It is also bothering me that we the tax payers are paying for a firehall that needed renovated yet they are still going door to door for donations and still getting budget money???? I think we could and should look at what we are spending on the fire department.  They only have a third of the calls that the ambulance does and nobody is asking why we have brand new trucks sitting in the garage.

Even More Facts:
Last I heard EWAS is a private, for profit business. If its so important that tax dollars go to subsidising a for profit company, maybe its time the city had their own ambulance service. Or maybe the hospital should have a hospital based ambulance service like Douglas. Then the subsidies would be through the hospital. The current setup just doesn't sit right.

More facts!!:
I for one am certainly glad our ambulance service is being keep up to date with the best equipment we (taxpayers)can buy with our tax dollars.  Our lives may depend on it!  I'm not willing to have to wait for a broken down ambulance or one from Cheyenne if I need it.  We should be putting our money where it is needed.  No one ever said that everyone gets an equal slice of the pie.

Facts:
All City Department budgets cut at least 10% EWAS given a 8% increase. Total yearly budget to EWAS $179,000 this includes a lease purchase for an Ambulance. Tax payers might want to start asking some more questions. Ask the City Department heads how they feel about this.

Watching from the Sideline:
After attending many of the meetings with the council I would just like to add that there are an abundance of things that are brought to the table and EWAS is only very few and far between.  When the issues are brought up that have to do with EWAS, I have personally watched as Councilman Evans abstained and even left the room.    I think we need to rally behind the council members that we have in office and continue to watch the decisions being made and the crack down on a lot of things that have gone by the wayside for so long.  I have seen the fact that the city crew is no longer allowed to take vehicles home.  Great Job Council.  In this day and age there is too many loop holes that can have a negative effect on a town or county if things are not monitored closely.  In closing I just wanna say Great council and my votes are definately going to Jason and Sue.

You're not really saying??:
I certainly wouldn't be worried about Jason Evans being re-elected to the Wheatland Town Council. He has done a good job and has abstained from any and all decisions that involve EWAS. Worry more about the race for sheriff!! I dread the day that the fine people of Platte County would elect Bill Motley, who epitomizes the name "Slick Willy", to run the county law enforcement agency! I say keep Steve Keigley!! He may not be perfect but he has more integrity than the other choice!

Supporter 2:
I support Councilman Evans' re-election as he has given great support for this community to become a better place for the people.

I have been to many of the meetings and watched many of the discussions budgetary and others and have also witnessed Jason obstain all discussion and voting involving the ambulance. I wouldn't say "conflict of interest" when a business owner is a city councilman: who better to serve?

supporter:

Jason Evans has been a good member of the Town Council.  I've been to the meetings and witnessed him give serious consideration to the decisions before the board.   He is also a supporter of the youth and making this town somewhere desirable for families to call home.  I support him for re-election.

I see:
I read in the PCRT that Councilman Evans is seeking re-election. I wonder if this is to keep giving EWAS bumps in their yearly stipend from the City while keep cutting all of the other City Departments budget, can you say conflict of interest.

Looking in:
talk to all the people that came to the meetings the last time this group was in power and ask them about the treatment they received when they had some input!!!

Genelle Petsch :
I will not hide behind a name like “The Shadow”.  I do not like being referred to as a posse member or a puppet!  I am neither.   I am a person who was elected by the people of Glendo. Whom I thank!

I will vote only for what I think is right for the Town of Glendo, with constructive input from the citizens.  It is my hope that the people will come to the meetings and see for themselves, instead of hiding in the shadows.

Genelle Petsch - Newly elected Town Council Member
