Behind The Scenes
for Wheaterville

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION HERE AND HELP TWEET IT ALONG TO 10,000!

So, is this the quiet after the flood or the calm before the storm? The “No Place for Hate” banners were voted down on Jan. 18 4-3 by the Platte County District #1 school board. Superintendent Stuart Nelson had them taken down the next day. Many students involved in the program, some of their parents, and a good number of local residents objected.

Enter The Media. Wyoming newspapers and blogs and Channel 9 News from Denver were the first to report on the Banning of the Banners. A Facebook Page and an online petition encouraged followers and signatures. Letters to the Editor, OpEd pieces, and comments flooded local papers. It’s February, and Wheatland, WY has made national and international news.

And life goes on. This first week in February, comments get less vitriolic. There are fewer Tweets, fewer letters to the editor, and reporters aren’t standing outside of WHS. Kids there have posters on their lockers, whoo hoo. The ACLU, the ADL, CNN, MSNBC political shows, and other non-media organizations and individuals have been contacted.

Wheatland, WY is blinking in the headlights of Something Big coming straight for it. The school board opened Pandora’s Box with their decision, and the Troubles continue to mince about. They’re still there, just listen. That thunder that sounds as though it might be going away isn’t.

Quotes and commentary from the School Board Four are sadly lacking, as are statements from the three who voted to keep the banners up. Why is that? If you haven’t had a chance to ask any of the seven personally why they voted as they did, why not? Ask. Sunlight Disinfects.

Plan on attending the school board meeting on Monday, Feb. 15th.  Come early. It doesn’t look as if the School Board is planning to make any accommodations whatsoever for the crowd that they know will be there. Why not?

Calm before the storm. That’s what it is.

Doug: You miss the point entirely, and yes, we noticed that you got your silly taunting name calling in there but decided that you are the best and clearest illustration of The Problem.
First, please enlighten us as to where I called names or taunted? Really? Or are you just being Silly.

Second, how is keeping to myself and raising a family part of "A Problem".  I speak my mind (much like you) and I suddenly become part of a "Problem" .  Wow.

Wheaterville is No Place for Hate. Jack is not banned. We do not Hate Jack. We let Jack talk and lecture. We let the Other Side talk and lecture. We let you go on and on and on.

But you miss the point. Dialogue is Good. Hearing both sides is Good. We don't have to agree on anything and we don't have to disagree on everything. The problem is when the school board decides that they WON'T listen to the community.

Read the latest here on Wheaterville. The school board, as a whole and as individuals, are IGNORING this. They will not even put this on the agenda.

C'mon "Doug". No matter which side you're on, you have to call that CHICKEN. And sadly short-sighted. But nobody Hates Jack :)

Doug:
It's frustrating to see all of the "for the banner" folks on here spouting off at how "hate filled" people are that disagree with them about the backing of a banner.  In the same breath the same people on the side of "Pro Banner" want to ban "Jack" from this site for voicing his opinion.  I guess that means that the only views worth sharing are your like-minded views of (cough) "equallity and respect for others".
I know i will be bashed or branded for speaking my point of view on here, but I can't remain silent anymore as I read all of this nonsense about the Board Members and a "limited few" as you put it, supporters of the removal of the banner.  I also agree with Jack that the only voices that really matter in this whole saga are the voices of people from Wheatland.  10,000 signatures from a town of 3,600.... wow.
As for the School Board Members...  as members of a board the decisions made by that board should be treated as a board decision.  Meaning, just because the vote for the removal was 4-3, the board decision was still ALL FOR REMOVAL as a unit.  All members need to support the final vote.  And finally yes, I support this decision.  That is how voting for a publicly elected official works.  I can disagree with Obama's policy all I want, but he was voted to be president and now we must wait and see how his policies effect our country- disagree or not.
And for all of you "pro banner" folks who insinuate that anyone who is for the removal of the banners is therefor saying Wheatland is "A Place For Hate.", please give me a break.  Using that same irrational thought process means that by removing the 10 commandments from federal buildings that you are therefor backing adultry, murder, greed, hate of your neighbor and so on.  Right?
I do not "hate" anyone. Period.  I have never called a gay person a "fag" or "queer", threatened or so much as looked at a homosexual cross-ways.  Do you know why?  I DON'T CARE!  That's why.  I have known homosexuals and even dated a girl with a gay brother.  Did I call him names, threaten him or punch him even when I knew he was gay?  NEVER.  Why? Because I didn't care.  And still don't.
What I do care about is the idea that our children are being told over and over that being gay is OK.  Who cares right? The repetitive "gay and proud" and "we are just like you" is getting old.  We get it already, you're gay.  Super.  I'm straight but don't go on and on and on about it.  I also don't feel my sexuality should be pushed on kids just as gay sexuality shouldn't.  So there, were "equal" now.

Move on.

Jack wants to check your ID before you can speak:

Sorry, Jack. Wyoming folks don’t need no stinkin' badges!

Jack: "Can we see your papers, please?"
Ronald Reagan: "Can you go f* yourself, please?"

Maybe Red China would be a better country for you, "Jack". Or how about Iran? They don't allow no protesting monkey business there!  You gotta have a license to pee.

Keep at it, Jack. Your homo hang-up is gonna bring you down yet…

You Don't Know, Jack:
Jack, I hope for your sake you're just trying to push buttons. Wyoming has nicely stringent Open Meeting Rules, and you only look really uninformed when you say things like this. In fact, one needs only to look at the deep doo doo the Cheyenne city attorney is in right now, for VIOLATING those WY Open Meeting Rules to get a feel for what your suggestion might cause.

That's an interesting thing to pursue. Perhaps the WY Open Meeting Rules require certain things? If the NPFH banner "issue" isn't on the agenda, clearly it should be! Who would have to make that request?

Sweeping Under Rug Is Not An Option. Sorry Jack.

Jack:
Another good decision by the school board.
They should check ID on the way in and not allow entry to anyone who is not a resident.
That would make it even better.
Go school board!

"As for Jack, he probably brings more people to the petition."
Really? A whole 864 unverifiable signatures on a worthless internet petition.
Oooh, scary.

Concerned:
Check out the Platte County Record Times.  The NPFH Banner situation is not on the agenda and can only be discussed in the public comment part of the meeting.  They will not move the meeting to a larger area.  So sad that they are trying to sweep this under the carpet.  Unless they address this it will not go away.

Amen Leslie!:
And Becky too, and the rest of you who understand that this issue is important to all of us, in Wheatland and outside of Wheatland. But it's going to be up to Wheatland's concerned citizens to MAKE something happen. Ball's in our court.

As for Jack, he probably brings more people to the petition. He contributes nothing to the conversation, and really only harms himself. Who else is paying any attention to him? Heck, let's not hate Jack either! Wheaterville is No Place for Hate, just for discussion and debate!

Ban Jack:
If the School Board doesn't even allow this to be up for discussion during their meeting that is a big slap in the face because there are OBVIOUSLY many concerned - to put it lightly - people. They can't just sweep this issue under the rug and pretend it isn't happening. The public - which includes the ADL - should have every right to voice their opinion in a respectable manner during this meeting.

I agree with Becky. Everyone no matter what their feelings needs to be there. If you don't show up don't complain about the outcome.  The school board better have this discussion on the agenda.
Tuesday

Leslie:
Jack - you say the ADL has no right to speak and this is none of their business, and they aren't from the community -

So what you are saying is that there are no people in the Platte Co School District that has a disability?  No one who has ever been discriminated against?    Well Jack I would say then that you are the one who is "Mentally Ill"

With this program we are trying to educate our children to respect each person on this earth if for nothing else but for the fact they are human - tall, short, skinny, fat, blond, red-head, gay, straight, or bi-sexual- they are still humans.  We don't need anyone especially the school board teaching our children to hate - tv and games already do that.

If we are lucky - No Place For Hate will spread throughout our town and county.

So bring the ADL, ACLU, Channel 9 news and who ever else wants to come - sadly this problem doesn't just exhist in Wheatland - but may be if we fix this issue here it will teach the rest of the world.

Becky :
We'll be at the meeting along with those seven you're mocking Jack, and either you'll be right and no one will be there and the board may not even bring it up, or everyone else is right and this is going to bust Wheaterville into everybody's newspapers everywhere. No use arguing about it now. Proof in pudding. See you there. I encourage every Wheatland resident, and Platte County resident to MAKE time for this meeting. Bring your children. This IS current events, and it will likely make history.

Public meetings are for the public:
Sorry, Jack.  The last time I looked, there was no Great Wall of Wheatland. If you don't want contact with the outside world, go join your buddy Bin Laden in a cave. I doubt you are from Wheatland yourself. People here like to hear both sides of a story.

Jack:

There is no good reason for the argument that the ADl should have podium time. If they want to speak they can do it on their own dime and rent a hall.

The school board should admit only citizens of Wheatland, not outside agitators (ADL and buddies.)

Wow. a whole 7?
The board must be terrified ;-)

Freedom is better:

So, "Jack," you decided some people have no right to speak, huh? Hey, maybe China or Iran could give you a job as a propagandist. You'd be so much happier there with your freedom-hating pals! No bothersome need to hear a point of view that you disagree with! The simple life!

Your attitude stinks. Maybe you could find something to do besides bitch and moan about how everybody else has more rights than you. You must be a real loser. Guess what, things change. If you can't handle it, get out of the way. If Wyoming isn't old-timey enough for you anymore, try the mountains of Pakistan. Bin Laden would be glad to have your help. We won't miss you.

Jack, you're nuts. Or something. You sure have alot of time on your hands though. Guess you figure that if you keep saying stuff like that someone somewhere might believe you? It doesn't work that way. 7 of us, in Wheatland definitly got more to say about this then you. We only hope that the more pepole who read your crap the more people will show up at the meeting to prove you so wrong.

MSmith said
"If The Gay & Lesbian Fund of Colorado, a Tim Gill organization, isn’t promoting homosexual relationships including “marriage” by normalizing and accepting their prescribed alternative life style; what is their purpose?"

Your paragraph there could not be more dead-on.
Did you use a laser sight :-)

They sometimes avoid using the words "gay marriage" and substitute "equality."
As we all know that is a red herring, as they have just as many rights, actually since the stupid hate crimes law, MORE rights than a heterosexual.
